ISLAMABAD:

Incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders on Monday once again approached Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi, seeking early fixation of their appeals against convictions in the May 9 cases.

The letter has been sent to CJP as well as the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court by jailed PTI leaders Dr Yasmin Rashid, Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed, Ijaz Chaudhry and Omer Sarfraz Cheema through their legal team.

PTI Insaf Lawyers Forum Convenor Intizaar Panjutha confirmed that the letter had been dispatched to both chief justices.

He said the first letter was written by Dr Yasmin Rashid to the Chief Justice of Pakistan on December 14, 2024.

A second letter was sent on May 2, 2025, titled “Justice Delayed Is Justice Denied”, in which she stated that cases were not being taken up effectively due to political interference. She also pointed out that her election petition had been pending for a long period.

A third letter was submitted on September 9, 2025, by Dr Yasmin Rashid, along with three other leaders, through their counsel Rana Mudassar Umar, to the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, raising concerns over what they described as “grave miscarriage and mala fide political victimisation through abuse of anti-terrorism proceedings”.

According to Panjutha, the latest letter has now been submitted by Dr Yasmin Rashid, Senator Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry, Omer Sarfraz Cheema and Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed to the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, seeking early fixation of their appeals, particularly those related to party workers.

Many PTI leaders were booked under various charges after the violent protests that erupted on May 9, 2023 following the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan from the premises of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in a corruption case.
