Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir and Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) Secretary General Major General Mohammed Bin Saeed Al-Moghedi on Monday agreed to enhance cooperation in regional security and counter-terrorism efforts.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), they discussed matters of mutual interest during a meeting at General Headquarters, with particular emphasis on regional security dynamics and enhanced cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts.

“Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to combatting terrorism and extremism through collaborative strategies, intelligence sharing, and capacity building among member states.

“The meeting underscored the resolve of both sides to further strengthen institutional collaboration for peace, stability and security in the region,” the ISPR said.

CDF Munir appreciated the IMCTC’s role in fostering stability and promoting coordinated counter-terrorism initiatives across the Islamic world.

The IMCTC secretary general also acknowledged Pakistan’s “significant contributions and sacrifices” in the fight against terrorism and lauded the professionalism of the military.

The ISPR said the IMCTC team is visiting Pakistan from Monday-Friday to conduct a one-week training at the National University of Sciences and Technology on the “re-integration and rehabilitation of extremist elements”.

The 41-member IMCTC is an intergovernmental antiterrorism alliance of Muslim countries formed in 2015, which is headquartered in Saudi Arabia.

Former Pakistan army chief Gen (retd) Raheel Sharif has been serving as the coalition’s commander-in-chief since 2017. The Saudis insist it is a work in progress but the force has taken no action so far since the beginning.
