Officials cite reckless driving; governor, CM order medical care and strict traffic law enforcement

KHAIRPUR:

At least 11 people were killed and more than 10 injured when a passenger coach collided with a trailer on the national highway near Tando Masti in Sindh’s Khairpur district on Sunday, officials said.

According to a spokesperson for the Motorway Police, the accident reportedly occurred due to negligence and reckless driving by the coach driver. Upon receiving information, Motorway Police personnel reached the site and launched a rescue operation.

The injured and the bodies of the deceased were shifted to nearby hospitals with the help of rescue services. Senior police officers were present at the scene to supervise relief activities, while Rescue 1122 and local police teams also participated in the operation. Traffic restoration and road clearance efforts were underway as investigations into the incident continued.

Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho directed the SSP Khairpur to immediately reach the site and personally oversee rescue and relief work. He also ordered that routes be kept clear during the transfer of the injured to hospitals and that relief activities in surrounding areas be ensured.

Meanwhile, Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori expressed deep sorrow and grief over the loss of lives in the accident. In a statement, he said he shared the grief of the bereaved families and prayed for the elevation of the ranks of the deceased and for patience for their relatives.

He directed that the injured be provided immediate and the best possible medical treatment and stressed strict enforcement of traffic laws to prevent such incidents. The governor also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also expressed deep sorrow and offered condolences to the affected families. He prayed for the elevation of the ranks of those who lost their lives and for the early recovery of the injured. The chief minister directed the district administrations of Khairpur and Sukkur to ensure the provision of the best medical facilities to the injured.

The chief minister was briefed that the accident involved a passenger coach coming from Punjab and a trailer, and that at least 11 passengers were killed while more than 10 sustained injuries. He said overspeeding had dangerous consequences and directed the Motorway Police to ensure strict enforcement of motorway and traffic laws.
