Zhang Qiongli, a deputy to the National People’s Congress (NPC) and a political teacher at Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture Senior High School, has been dedicated to frontline education for sixteen years.
During her tenure, Zhang has put forward multiple proposals centered on students’ needs, earning wide recognition. In 2023, she recommended promoting desks and chairs tailored to the reclined rest requirements of primary and secondary school students, with related measures gradually implemented in various regions. In 2024, she proposed establishing rural libraries and optimizing the academic proficiency examination for general senior high schools. In 2025, focusing on research in red education, she advocated for formulating unified curriculum standards, advancing digital upgrades, and enhancing the educational function of red resources.
As for the 2026 NPC session, Zhang continues to concentrate on the education sector, proposing the integration of science popularization education with ideological and political education to strengthen value guidance, and purify the online environment for youth.
As a representative of the Tujia ethnic group, she also plans to propose measures to reinforce the consciousness of the Chinese national community based on the realities of Enshi. Zhang Qiongli stated, “As an NPC deputy, it is unnecessary to achieve monumental feats; instead, one should treat the small matters surrounding the people as major concerns. Only by rooting oneself in the grassroots can one hear the most genuine voices and respond promptly.” (Xinhua/Wu Zhizun)
