Security tightened at entry points, airport; police urge vigilance and warn against spreading rumours

Karachi has been placed on high alert amid the Pakistan Army’s ‘Operation Ghazab Lil Haq’ against the Afghan Taliban, with police issuing a detailed public safety advisory on Saturday.

Karachi Assistant Inspector General of Police Azad Khan directed heightened security measures across the metropolis following reports of escalating tensions between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban regime.

According to a city police spokesperson, surveillance has been intensified while security has been further strengthened at key entry and exit points, major transport hubs and other sensitive installations to pre-empt any potential security threats. Law enforcement agencies have also increased monitoring across important public and commercial areas.

The advisory urged citizens to remain vigilant and stay updated through official announcements issued by police, law enforcement agencies and provincial authorities. The public has been asked to immediately report any suspicious activity, unusual movement, unattended items or suspicious individuals at sensitive locations to Madadgar 15.

Citizens have been directed to strictly comply with instructions issued by police and to fully cooperate during snap checking, search operations and at security checkpoints.

Police also cautioned against spreading unverified information on social media, adding that recent false reports regarding certain shopping centres and commercial areas had caused unnecessary panic. Citizens were advised to rely only on official statements issued by Sindh Police, local administration or government press briefings.

Travellers have been advised to leave their homes at least one hour earlier than usual when heading to the airport and other key locations. To reduce congestion, only one individual accompanying a passenger will be allowed at designated airport drop-off and pick-up points.

Citizens have been further instructed to carry their national identity cards at all times for possible verification at checkpoints. In case of emergency or suspicious activity, the public has been asked to contact Madadgar 15 or call the police helpline at 021-99225327.

All measures have been taken to ensure peace, stability and public safety, adding that law enforcement agencies remain fully prepared to respond to any threat.
