QUETTA:

In a move aimed at strengthening security and ensuring long-term peace in Balochistan, the federal and provincial governments on Monday agreed to deploy the Federal Constabulary across sensitive areas of the province.

Under the initial plan, two wings of the force, comprising around 3,000 personnel, will be deployed in selected districts to support efforts aimed at maintaining stability.

An important meeting between the federal and provincial leadership was held in Quetta on Monday to review the overall security environment in Balochistan and discuss coordinated measures to strengthen law enforcement and governance in the province.

The session was jointly chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti.

Senior representatives from key federal and provincial departments attended the meeting and presented detailed briefings on several pressing issues. Discussions focused on the prevailing law and order situation, the repatriation of Afghan refugees, and ongoing actions against illegal financial channels such as hawala and hundi.

Authorities also reviewed strategies to curb extortion and dismantle smuggling networks operating in various parts of the province.

Officials from major federal agencies briefed participants on their operational activities and outlined measures being implemented to enhance coordination among institutions working on security and enforcement.
