Fire erupts at Khor Fakkan after interception; drone detected near telecom site in Fujairah

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday expressed concern after a missile was intercepted at Khor Fakkan port in the United Arab Emirates, injuring four civilians, including three Pakistani nationals.

In a post on X, the premier said, “Deeply concerned at the incident at Khor Fakkan port in the UAE, where an intercepted projectile caused injuries to civilians, including Pakistani nationals.”

He said Pakistan was in “close contact” with UAE authorities to ensure all necessary support for its citizens, and prayed for the “swift recovery” of the injured. “Pakistan stands in solidarity with the brotherly people of the UAE and reiterates the urgent need for restraint and de-escalation in the region,” he added.

On Sunday, the Sharjah Media Office said three Pakistani nationals and a Nepalese national were injured after a fire broke out at Khor Fakkan Port due to falling debris from missile interception by the UAE’s air defence systems.

“The competent authorities confirm the outbreak of a fire at the site, and emergency response teams have promptly and efficiently begun addressing it, with the fire now under control and cooling operations underway,” it said. The statement added, “The incident resulted in one person of Nepalese nationality sustaining a severe injury and being transferred to the hospital for medical care, in addition to three individuals of Pakistani nationality sustaining injuries ranging from minor to moderate.”

According to Reuters, officials said a drone approaching from Iran was detected near a building operated by a telecom company, though it was not clear whether it struck the site or caused any damage.

The attack occurred amid escalating regional tensions, with Gulf countries increasingly affected by Iran’s retaliatory missile and drone campaign during the ongoing US-Israeli war. Amid the conflict, four Pakistani nationals have died in the UAE due to falling debris from missile interceptions.

The incident comes as intensifying regional tensions following a sharp escalation between the United States and Iran. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed it had downed multiple US aircraft, including C-130 transport planes and Black Hawk helicopters, during a rescue operation in Isfahan province, as Tehran stepped up retaliatory strikes.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump warned Iran it would be “living in Hell” if it failed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil route that has remained effectively closed for weeks. The conflict has triggered missile and drone attacks across Gulf countries, targeting key infrastructure and raising fears of wider regional instability.
