A number of truly disturbing videos have been circulating across New York State, scaring some people.

If you’ve recently seen posts on Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok boasting about “Thruway swimming,” you’re not alone. This is part of a dangerous new social media trend that can be very deadly.

What is “Thruway Swimming”?

This insane video of a speeding driver weaving between other cars and lanes on NY 33 in Buffalo should be alarming for New York drivers, especially those who frequently commute on major roads. It is the main cause of this.

We’ve witnessed this happen nearly 10 times in the past month while traveling in New York, and each time, the incident becomes more and more disgusting. Drivers who engage in this behavior are clearly putting themselves and their passengers at risk, as well as the lives of other drivers around them who are just trying to get to work, home, school, or run errands for their families. is seriously endangered.

Police Chief Joseph Gramaglia told Buffalo. WGRZ-TV Police are encouraged to stop a vehicle whenever they see a driver. But that’s easier said than done, as they’re traveling dangerously fast, and chasing them could put more people at risk.

Unfortunately, this trend shows no signs of stopping, even if drivers at fault may face prosecution. We sincerely hope that this terrible outbreak is forgotten, especially before the worst-case scenario becomes a reality and someone loses their life.
