Former Pakistan women’s team captain Bisma Maroof has announced her retirement from all forms of cricket with immediate effect.
Maroof, who made his international debut in 2006, played 276 international matches for Pakistan and scored 6,262 international runs, including 33 half-centuries en route to taking 80 wickets. Maroof has the distinction of being the top scorer in both ODIs (3369 runs) and T20Is (2983 runs) in Pakistan cricket. Remarkably, she is the only Pakistani cricketer to cross the 3000-run milestone in women’s ODIs.
Maroof captained the Pakistan national team and played a total of 96 matches, including 62 T20Is (27 wins) and 34 ODIs (16 wins). Only Sana Mir has played more T20Is (65) for Pakistan than Malouf, but she is third in ODIs behind Mir (72) and Shaiza Khan (39).
“I have decided to retire from the game I love the most. It has been an amazing journey full of challenges, victories and unforgettable memories. Throughout my cricketing career, my family has supported me from the beginning until now. I would like to express my gratitude to you,” she said in a PCB release.
“I would also like to express my gratitude to the Pakistan Cricket Board for believing in me and giving me a platform to showcase my talent. Lastly, I would like to thank my fellow players, who have been invaluable to me and have allowed me to represent my country at the highest level while also being a mother. The friendship we shared on and off the field is something I will cherish forever,” she added.
Maloof was part of the women’s team that won gold twice at the 2010 and 2014 Asian Games. She also captained the team for Pakistan in four Women’s ODI World Cups (2009, 2013, 2017 and 2022). It will be held in New Zealand in 2022. She has played in eight T20 World Cups (2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2023) and the 2020 tournament held in Australia and South Africa respectively. and led the team in the 2023 tournament.
