Voting for all 20 seats in Kerala began at 7 am on Friday. In the first hour of voting, Kerala recorded a turnout of 5.62%. This year’s general elections will be held in seven phases, with Kerala, along with 13 other states, voting in the second phase in all 20 constituencies. Vote counting is scheduled for June 4th. In this election, there were a total of 27,749,159 voters in the state, of whom more than 500,000 were first-time voters. While Kottayam constituency is at the top with 14 candidates, Alathur constituency has the least number of candidates with her at five. The notable numbers include 13 candidates in Calicut and 12 candidates each in Kollam and Kannur. Of the 194 candidates, 169 were men and 25 were women. Vadakara stands out as having the most female candidates with four. April 4th was the deadline for nominations, and April 8th was the deadline for withdrawals. Voting will be held tomorrow in the state of Kerala, followed by most of India in the remaining five phases. Despite the predictions of pollsters, experts and specific political parties, the outcome remains uncertain. In recent weeks, campaigning has intensified into a predictable showdown as the political front in Kerala emerges from the summer malaise and realizes the stakes. As the state will vote in one phase, high-profile elections are expected, especially in seats such as Wayanad, Thiruvananthapuram and Thrissur. In Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi faces competition from CPI’s Annie Raja and state president K Surendran from the BJP. Shashi Tharoor will face Bharatiya Janata Party’s Rajiv Chandrasekhar in Thiruvananthapuram. Actor-turned-politician Suresh Gopi will also join the fight against Congress’s K Muraleedharan and CPI(M)’s VS Sunil Kumar in Thrissur. Voting in this phase includes Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jammu and It includes seats from various states, including Kashmir. Subsequent stages of the general election will be held on May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1, respectively.
