Durango is fortunate to have many valuable organizations that work together to support local businesses, and today I want to shine a spotlight on the Durango Chamber of Commerce and some of its contributions to the business community.
The Chamber’s mission is to be an advocate and resource for local businesses, promoting economic growth, community development and supporting local businesses. To fulfill this mission, the Chamber offers a variety of resources and tools designed to aid in business development, from innovative marketing strategies to essential HR workshops. Each month, Lunch & Learn sessions will cover a different topic. In the coming months, we will be hosting sessions focused on improving customer service, creating compelling videos, mastering social media, leveraging AI and using Canva. These workshops are designed to provide members with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the marketplace.
For small businesses that can’t always keep up with the ever-changing workforce landscape, the Chamber is here to help fill the gap. In partnership with the Durango Area Human Resources Managers Association, the Chamber is hosting valuable workshops to keep small businesses up to date. This August, employment law expert Michael Santo will host a session on the latest labor laws to help local businesses stay compliant and competitive.
The Chamber’s mission goes beyond just advocacy; we are committed to fostering a business-friendly environment through strong advocacy. We advocate for the interests of local businesses at the local, state and national levels, advocating for policies that support economic growth while opposing legislation that could negatively impact the business climate. This advocacy is critical because it ensures that the voices of local businesses are heard and considered throughout the public policy process.
The Durango Chamber of Commerce is hosting an Eggs and Issues Legislative Roundup event on June 27 to keep the community informed about legislative and policy developments and how they impact local businesses. Please join us! This event is a great opportunity for business owners and community members to stay up to date on state-level issues. Attendees will hear directly from Colorado Competitive Council (C3), a strong advocate for business. This organization partners with businesses, chambers of commerce and economic development companies across Colorado, leveraging a team of experts with deep knowledge of important business issues and influence at the Statehouse.
At the June 27 event, C3 Executive Director Rachel Beck and lobbyist Travis Berry will share their insights and advocacy work from the recent legislative session. They will provide an update on which bills passed, which failed and which may resurface in the next session, with a specific focus on issues that impact business and Southwest Colorado. This session is essential for anyone wanting to understand the legislative landscape and its potential impacts on business.
Collectively, the Chamber’s efforts foster a vibrant business environment, enhance the quality of life and ensure a thriving community. We serve as a catalyst, connector, organizer and advocate for our members and the broader community, and are proud to serve as a major voice for small business.
