Movies are usually released on a Friday, taking advantage of the weekend. But these days, we’re seeing some big-budget movies opting for Thursday releases to benefit from an extra day heading into the weekend. A number of movies scheduled for release in the coming months will hit screens on Thursday.
The next big release in South India is ‘Indian 2′ starring Kamal Haasan. It will be released on Thursday, June 13th, taking advantage of the Bakrid holiday on Monday, June 17th. It is reported that director Prabhas’ next film ‘Kalki, 2898 AD’ will be released in theaters on June 27th. But this movie doesn’t have the benefit of long weekends or vacations.
Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2, also known as Pushpa: The Rule, is scheduled to release worldwide on Thursday, August 15. I plan on taking advantage of the Fourth of July weekend.
Nani’s ‘Saripodhaa Sanivaram’ will be released on August 29, two weeks after ‘Pushpa 2’. Even this movie doesn’t benefit from holidays or long weekends.
Even Jr NTR’s Devara will hit screens across the world on Thursday, October 10, during the Dasara festive season.
Some films take advantage of the long weekend, while others choose to release on Thursdays regardless of holiday schedules. It looks like this trend could soon become the norm within the Indian film industry.
