Three Twin Cities women’s basketball players will compete for a spot on USA Basketball’s U-17 national team.
USA Basketball announced this week the 44 players expected to participate in the trials. Two of them, junior Aaliyah Crump and sophomore Ranelle Wright, played on Minnetonka’s Class 4A state championship team. The third, Maddin Greenway, is her sophomore who won the Class 2A state title at Providence Academy.
The exam will be held from May 23rd to May 27th at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. A team of 12 members will be selected. The selected players will conduct a training camp in Colorado Springs in early July before competing in the FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup, which begins July 13-21 in Irapuato and Leon, Mexico.
Thirty-five of the players have experience with USA Basketball through trials, training camps and tournaments. All 12 members of the 2023 USA Basketball U-16 team, which won gold at the FIBA U16 Women’s America Cup, will participate in the trials. That group also includes clamps.
Crump and Greenway made the Star Tribune All-Metro First Team after the 2023-24 season. Last season, Greenway, a 5-8 guard, averaged 34.2 points per game, while Crump, a 6-1 guard, averaged 24.5 points. Wright is a 5-9 guard who averaged 13.6 points per game.
Crump is ranked No. 5 in the nation among 2025 recruits by ESPN. Greenway ranks him No. 16 in his 2026 class.
