CHANDIGARH: AAP on Thursday announced that it will contest all 90 seats in the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections. Its slogan will be “Let’s change the situation in Haryana, bring in Kejriwal”. The term of the Haryana Assembly ends in October. Announcing the decision at a press conference, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the people of Haryana have tried other parties but all of them have robbed the state. “The people of Haryana now want change. Haryana’s son Arvind Kejriwal has changed the politics of the entire country. AAP has won three Lok Sabha elections and Jalandhar by-elections,” he said. AAP’s national president and Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal is currently in jail in an alleged liquor scam case and awaiting bail. In the 2019 state assembly elections, AAP contested 46 seats in Haryana but failed to win any of them, getting less than 1% of the votes. Mann was addressing a press conference along with AAP national spokesperson Sanjay Singh and national general secretary (organisation) Sandeep Pathak. Singh declared that AAP will demand the withdrawal of the Agnipath scheme, which involves short-term recruitment into the armed forces. “They are lending wages to the Indian Army. It is an insult to the war dead of Haryana. Besides, there are also issues of fair prices for agricultural produce and rising unemployment. The BJP’s two-engine government tried to change the engine by replacing Manohar Lal Khattar with Nayab Singh Saini, but the people will give them a fitting reply,” he said. Pathak asserted that AAP will fight with all its might “in every seat, in every polling booth.” “We have already held rallies in 6,500 villages in the state and there is a clamour for change along with expectations from Kejriwal. We will hold a town hall meeting on July 20 to announce the guarantee for the state,” he said.
