A suspect has been arrested after dozens of cars and several businesses were vandalized along a popular Long Beach road.
More than 25 vehicles and seven businesses were damaged in a crime spree in the East Village, according to Long Beach Police. Officers were dispatched Friday morning to multiple reports of broken windows at businesses and cars.
All of the vehicles with smashed windows were parked in a Chase Bank parking lot, and one building manager said surveillance cameras at an apartment building captured the man vandalizing the building.
He added that Friday’s incident was not an isolated incident.
“It’s been going on for at least the last three years,” said Joe Harding, a building manager in Long Beach. “Windows are broken, businesses are closed for the night, and people come back the next morning wondering if they were affected. People park their cars on the street and go outside every morning and come back wondering if they were affected. They’re constantly coming around these buildings asking for video footage so they can submit it to the insurance companies and get compensation.”
Long Beach police said one arrest had been made in connection with the vandalism, but did not release the suspect’s name or say what charges he may face.
