Sajid Hassan on Thursday broke his silence over his son’s alleged involvement in the Mustafa Amir murder case, expressing anguish over the public’s rush to declare him guilty without concrete evidence.

Hassan’s son, Sahir Hassan, was arrested along with three others during raids in Karachi’s Defence area.

The arrests came as part of the ongoing investigation into the high-profile murder of 23-year-old Mustafa Amir, who went missing in January. His body was found earlier in February, around a month after he went missing.

During interrogation, police said Sahir confessed to selling drugs via Snapchat for the past two years, allegedly earning around Rs1,500,000 per week.

Authorities claimed he admitted to supplying drugs to both Mustafa Amir and Armaghan Qureshi— the prime suspect in the case.

Addressing reporters, the actor said the murder was a “heartbreaking tragedy” and extended sympathy to Mustafa’s family.

“I haven’t been able to sleep since I heard Mustafa’s mother’s message,” he said. “Mustafa was like my own son. I only want justice to prevail, not just for my child but for all families involved.”

Hassan, however, criticised the treatment of his son in the media and by society. “My son has already been declared guilty without trial. I am not defending his actions, but I am only asking for a fair legal process,” he added.

The actor also revealed that his family had been socially isolated, with neighbours severing ties and work opportunities drying up.

Police said Sahir’s confession included the names of more than 12 clients and detailed how he ran his drug business exclusively through Snapchat. Drugs were recovered from his possession during the arrest, authorities added.

Legal representatives for Hassan’s family argued that the drug charges should be handled separately from the murder investigation, calling the linking of the two cases an attempt to divert attention from the primary probe.

“My son’s mistakes should not be used to overshadow the murder investigation,” Hassan said.

Despite the ordeal, the actor expressed confidence in the judicial process.

“I believe in the courts. I want the truth to come out— no matter how painful it may be,” he said.

Court extends Armaghan’s physical remand

Earlier today, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) extended the physical remand of Armaghan Qureshi and Shiraz, key suspects in the Mustafa Amir murder case, for five days while ordering their medical examination.

During the hearing, Armaghan claimed he was being tortured in police custody and requested not to be handed over for further interrogation. He further stated that he was denied access to a washroom for ten days.

The court, however, dismissed his allegation of being denied access to a washroom stating that “If that were the case, you would not be standing here.”

The court allowed the accused to meet their family and lawyers in the presence of police and court officials.
