“We understand that, but the solution is not immediate, it is not immediate,” he explained. “We need to do some things, some upgrades in order to work the way we do, and I think that will make us even more competitive.

On the other side of Williams’ garage, it was an eventful afternoon for Shanghai Sgt. After making some changes to the car, the American started the race from the pit lane, but quickly entered the final stages of a hectic Grand Prix that included a virtual safety car period followed by two full safety car phases halfway through. Sargent was handed a 10-second time penalty for overtaking Nico Hulkenberg under safety car conditions, and the incident occurred just as Hulkenberg was exiting the pit lane. The 23-year-old finished last in the event in 17th place.
