An election rally held by Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav in Azamgarh district on May 21 witnessed a crowd-like situation as overzealous party workers and supporters pushed each other and climbed over wooden barriers. On May 19, a joint rally between Yadav and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Phulpur Lok Sabha constituency was called off due to similar crowd situation. Later, addressing a rally in Lalganj, Yadav claimed that voters were ready to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party and accused the ruling party of neglecting all sectors of the country.

The SP president accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of cheating the youth, farmers and other social groups. “They have deceived not only farmers, but also our youth, women, civil servants and other sections of society,” he said.

Yadav also targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party for introducing the four-year Agniveer scheme for the armed forces and questioned the frequent leaks of documents in UP. Agniveer’s job is for 4 years, what will the young man do after 4 years? I assure the youth of our country that once the Government of India is formed, this system will be abolished,” he said.
