Srinagar, July 27: Following the party’s unexpected defeat in the recent Indian Lok Sabha elections, Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party chief Altaf Bukhari on Saturday said the party will not form alliances, seek support from other parties or give support to any political party in the upcoming elections.
Bukhari said the Apni Party is actively working to address disparities through door-to-door campaigns and is gearing up for the upcoming state assembly elections. “We are conducting door-to-door campaigns, which are proving fruitful in building a stronger party. Our unexpected defeat in the Lok Sabha elections has forced us to work on addressing the disparity between the party and the people, which we are doing well,” he said.
Commenting on Jamaat-e-Islami, Apni said religious parties should have the right to carry out their activities and he respects them, including Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir’s Dr Maulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq. If they choose to contest elections in Jammu and Kashmir, it will be accepted because everyone has the right to take part in the democratic process,” he said.
Bukhari further revealed that he will contest from both Uri and Chanapora constituencies in Srinagar. “I have strong support from both these areas, so I will contest from these two constituencies,” he said.
Meanwhile, according to a statement issued by the Apni Party, Altaf Bukhari presided over a series of meetings with party leaders and senior officials during his visit to Uri. “On the occasion, the local leadership shared their views and suggestions for further strengthening the party in the constituency. They also outlined strategies to intensify public relations activities in preparation for the upcoming elections,” the statement said, adding that a number of political activists have joined the party. Bukhari warmly welcomed these new members into the party.
Speaking on the occasion, Buhari assured the people that the Apni Party, if given the mandate of the people in the upcoming elections, would work towards ensuring the prosperity and wellbeing of the border region.
