'India could become the third largest economy by 2028': US political scientist tells NDTV

Mr. Bremer is the founder of Eurasia Group, a risk and research consulting firm.

New Delhi:

In an exclusive interview with NDTV Profit, Ian Bremmer, US political scientist and global political risk consultant, said India has been underperforming for decades despite its “incredible population ratio” and “very strong intellectual capital”.

Mr. Bremer is the founder of Eurasia Group, a risk and research consulting firm. “The world has seen India underperform for decades. India has incredible population weight and very strong intellectual capital…so many American CEOs. are of Indian origin. Yet India is underperforming as an economy,” he said.

“We see growth picking up,” he said, predicting India would become the world’s fourth-largest economy by next year and third-largest by 2028. He also highlighted India’s growing influence on the world stage and hinted at its continued growth in the coming years. is increasingly defining its international relations.

“As India becomes more powerful, it is increasingly defining itself in terms of friendly relations with the rest of the world. As a leader in the global south, it is becoming a bridge to stronger and more stable relationships and, more recently, to a limited extent, stabilizing India-China relations,” Bremmer said.

“Not only is India seen as a more positive story, India is also not seen as a threat on the world stage. India is seen as a constructive part of the global economy, but there aren’t many good stories. That’s why the West is paying attention,” he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently emphasized the importance of a robust industrial sector to support and sustain the agricultural sector in an interview with NDTV.

India’s emergence as a manufacturing powerhouse is evident in several areas: The country has moved from being a major importer of mobile phones to the world’s second-largest manufacturer. This transformation is most visible in the production of iPhones, with one in seven iPhones in the world now being made in India.

“We used to be an importer of mobile phones and now we are the second largest manufacturer in the world. iPhones are exported from here all over the world. One out of every seven iPhones in the world is made in India. Let me share my experience with diamonds.” In Gujarat… 8 out of 10 diamonds in the world have some form of Indian contribution. The next step is green diamonds, lab-grown diamonds and we will go there too,” PM Modi told NDTV.

Defense industry is another area where India is making great progress. Prime Minister Modi said the country has started defense production worth nearly Rs 1,000 crore and exports have reached around Rs 21,000 crore.
