Raipur: Tension rose at the BJP headquarters in Rajiv Bhawan on Wednesday as Mayor Aijaz Debari led spirited protests demanding attention for the upcoming Raipur South Assembly seat. Despite the dramatic protests, BJP stalwarts including former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Communist Party of India chairman Deepak Baij continued with crucial discussions, stressing on internal unity amid external challenges.
The meeting, convened to chart out the party’s course ahead of the upcoming by-elections, concluded late on Wednesday night after marathon deliberations. “We are united in our resolve to expose the failings of both the Modi government at the Centre and the Sai government in the state,” Baij told reporters after the meeting.
Buoyed by optimistic recent election results, the Congress Party expressed confidence of securing the seat even as the Bharatiya Janata Party has ruled Raipur South for eight consecutive terms. “The Bharatiya Janata Party left a vacuum with the way it treated former minister Brijmohan Agarwal and the voters of Raipur. We are trying to fill that vacuum,” Baij claimed.
The party further outlined a strong strategy that includes protests in Parliament and grassroots mobilisation on issues ranging from the agrarian crisis to lack of law and order. “Our agenda is clear. From the streets to Parliament, we will amplify the discontent of the people,” Baij reiterated, underlining the party’s resolve to tackle the law and order problem in the state.
To strengthen its grassroots support, the Congress is planning monthly leadership meetings and increased accountability of party fronts and organisations. “We will make law and order in the state a key election issue,” Baij concluded, signalling an aggressive campaign ahead of the by-elections and urban polls.
Political maneuvering is expected to intensify in the coming weeks as the Chhattisgarh Congress party prepares for the showdown and underlines its determination to retake the southern Raipur seat.
