MUMBAI: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to address a party rally in Pune on July 14 ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections, party’s state unit president Chandrashekhar Bawankule said here on Saturday.
“Around 4,500 party cadres will be attending the BJP meet in Pune. We have invited Amit Shah to address the meet and he has agreed to come to Pune. The meet will be crucial ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections,” he told reporters.
Parliamentary elections are expected to take place in October this year.
Asked about the Maharashtra Assembly elections due next month, Bawankule said, “The name will be finalised today or tomorrow. I am confident that the Central Congress Committee will finalise a good name which will be beneficial for the state.” “The BJP wants to occupy the state Assembly speaker’s post but will hold talks with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and the other 11 parties which constitute the NDA,” Bawankule said.
If necessary, polls for the 11 MLC seats will be held on July 12.
The biennial elections for 11 state assembly seats will be a key test for the ruling Mahayuti and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) ahead of state assembly elections scheduled for later this year.
