HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Angel City Football Club was among the honorees at ESPN’s 10th annual Sports Humanitarian Awards on Wednesday night, and the daughters of the late Stuart Scott paid tribute to their father on the 10th anniversary of his heartfelt speech at the ESPYS.

The event, held at the Citizen News in Hollywood, brought together many sports professionals to celebrate those who are making a difference through sports.

Angel City won the Sports Humanitarian Team of the Year award.

“Last year, we did 5,400 hours of community service with 1,700 volunteers,” said team president Julie Ahman. “It’s part of our DNA, so to be recognized in this way is really special for this team.”

PXP founder Bryce Christianson received the Stuart Scott ENSPIRE Award in recognition of his work to improve access to sports for deaf and hard of hearing fans.

Tennis legend and cultural icon Serena Williams will host the 2024 ESPY Awards on Thursday at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, ABC.

“PXP was inspired by my deaf father, who grew up being bullied for being deaf and attended Green Bay Packers practices,” Christianson said. “These players became friends with my father and changed his life.”

Scott’s daughters were also in attendance at the event, accepting the Jimmy V Award and honoring their father’s achievements, 10 years after his iconic ESPYS speech.

“My dad’s life is over,” Taylor Scott told reporters, “but the community he built will never be over.”

The ESPYS will air live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on ABC on Thursday at 8pm ET/PT.
