Open-toed shoes are obviously not a good fit for the litter-infested streets of New York City, where one wrong move could mean serious foot health violations, but this summer’s hottest shoe trend may be the alarmist, see-through mesh and net flats. Anne Hathaway, somehow, managed to pull it off.
Earlier this week, The Devil Wears Prada The star was out and about in New York City for a fashionable outing, where she was spotted running errands while wearing the latest evolution of the inescapable ballet flat shoe trend: a black version of Alaia’s fishnet Mary Janes.
Hathaway made the potentially dangerous shoes look totally elegant, finishing off an all-black, monochrome look that consisted of a sleeveless vest, silk midi skirt, and wide-brimmed straw hat. Her accessories were equally lavish yet effortless, from large black sunglasses to a slouchy Hermes Birkin bag adorned with a colorful scarf and a puppy-shaped charm. She slung another leather tote over her shoulder and completed the look with a simple gold pendant necklace.
Hathaway wore the same Alaia flats for a night out in the city last week, but paired them with a pale blue loungewear set that consisted of an oversized button-up and lightweight pleated pants.
In a 2023 interview, she described her sense of style as “fluid.” “That’s one of the reasons I love being an actress, my style is fluid. When I realized that, it was like something just clicked,” she said. “But that’s just me. It’s not. There are other people who are like, ‘No, I wear a black turtleneck every day.'”
