Excise and Narcotics teams continued to conduct routine visits to colleges, universities and major schools
RAWALPINDI:
Despite being tasked with conducting daily anti-narcotics operations across the district, the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department failed to recover even a negligible quantity of drugs in the month of January.
Throughout the entire month, not a single seizure of cannabis, heroin, opium, ephedrine or alcohol was made. The department’s overall performance has been described as extremely disappointing.
Excise and Narcotics teams continued to conduct routine visits to colleges, universities and major schools, and established checkpoints at various intersections and roads across the district. However, despite daily search operations, not even an amount equivalent to a single cigarette’s worth of narcotics was recovered.
The Punjab government had established a dedicated wing within the Excise Department to eradicate drug trafficking. In Rawalpindi district, this wing comprises two Inspectors, Babar and Jahangir, supported by ten constables and 10 private civilian personnel. The teams carried out raids throughout the district from January 1 to 31 but failed to achieve any tangible results.
Not a single First Information Report (FIR) has been registered to date. The FIR register reportedly remains untouched in a desk drawer.
