“I took the NVME Venturing Forth course in 2019 and learned more about being an entrepreneur and the logistics of starting a business than I ever learned in four years of business school.” – Amanda Hatley, Founder and Director, She Summits Co.

STATE — New Ventures Maine (NVME) is now accepting applications for its free online comprehensive business planning class, Venturing Forth, which begins Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Aimed at new entrepreneurs and existing business owners, Venturing Forth helps participants develop a written business plan from start to finish with feedback from facilitators and fellow entrepreneurs. The 60-hour course covers topics such as customers, competition, marketing, record-keeping, taxes, fundraising and legal aspects. Through in-class activities, guest speakers and homework, you’ll complete your business plan and roadmap to success. This comprehensive course includes three follow-up networking sessions.

To join the class, you will need to complete an online application and attend an orientation and personal interview. Applications are accessible online and are due at noon on Tuesday, August 27. Classes are limited to 15 students.

“This class is designed to support small business owners with all aspects of creating a business plan,” said Alicia LaFosse, microenterprise specialist at NVME. “Participants will not only learn through the class content, but they will also be able to learn from peers and entrepreneurs in the community as they hone their vision and create their plan.”

Venturing Forth classes will be held via Zoom on the following dates and times:

  • September 3rd to October 15th: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:30am to 12:00pm
  • October 22nd – December 3rd: Tuesdays only, 9:30am – 3pm (No classes on Tuesday, November 26th)

Anyone with a business idea or currently running a business is welcome to apply.

The class also makes students eligible to receive three pass/fail credits from the University of Maine at Augusta upon approval of the completed business plan.

To request or complete an application, register for orientation, or learn more, contact Alicia LaFosse at 207-621-7457 or alicia.lafosse@maine.edu or visit the New Ventures Maine website.
