In the wake of a new Taylor Swift trend, Argos has warned customers not to let themselves, their children or pets on any robot vacuum cleaners they buy from the retailer.

Brits have taken to social media to “recreate” the new “The Tortured Poets Department” section of Taylor Swift’s Eras tour, which sees the star ride across the stage in what appears to be a giant robotic vacuum cleaner.

Since then, thousands of videos have appeared online showing cardboard cutouts of Taylor Swift, as well as cats and children riding on the devices.

One popular video on TikTok is “Cat on a Vacuum Cleaner (Taylor’s version),” which shows a cat riding a vacuum cleaner to the tune of Taylor Swift’s “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” and has been viewed more than 985,000 times.

Since the trend became a hot topic on the platform, Lisa Holridge, Argos’ divisional director of seasonal goods, toys and electrical appliances, has urged people not to take part.

“We understand that fans love to copy Taylor’s every move, but we’ve taken this step to protect our customers and to ensure that appliances are not damaged by recreating parts of Taylor’s performances,” Holridge said.

She continued: “Robot vacuums have huge benefits for homeowners, but allowing customers to imagine themselves as an international pop star is unfortunately not one of them. We hope people heed the warning we’ve had to share in response to the social media trend, and we expect this trend to intensify once Taylor hits the UK in June.”
