Berlin, Germany – Germany is being accused of silencing pro-Palestinian voices, having ordered the deportations of three European nationals and a United States citizen over their alleged actions at demonstrations. None has been convicted of any crime. Critics said the decision is another chapter of German unease with the pro-Palestine movement. Since the war in Gaza began in October 2023, tensions have flared as officials have moved to ban protests and cancel events while cultural institutes have distanced themselves from artists who raise awareness about the Palestinian cause. Here’s what you should know: What’s happening? The four activists received initial…
Former U.S. Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan said Monday that Facebook “panicked” when making the acquisitions of Instagram and WhatsApp as smartphone use took off.”It saw companies like Instagram and WhatsApp experiencing astronomical growth, and that’s the point at which it resorted to this buy-or-bury scheme where, if it couldn’t out-compete a rival, it either bought them out or cut them off its network,” Khan said on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, begins a trial with the FTC on Monday. The government alleges that the company monopolized the personal social networking market with…
Pakistan were bowled out for a below-par 191 against the West Indies on Monday in their third One-Day International (ODI) encounter of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 Qualifiers. The Pakistani innings never really started going on a wicket at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore that spun from ball one and had variable bounce as well. The hosts are looking to continue their winning momentum and edge ever so closer to qualifying for the World Cup by triumphing in today’s clash. Veteran batter Sidra Amin top-scored with 54 but was found wanting for support from the other end. The hosts…
Listen to article ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Sunday called for full cooperation from Iranian authorities in investigating and bringing to justice those responsible for the brutal murder of eight Pakistani nationals in Iran’s Sistan-Baluchistan province over the weekend. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday when the bodies of eight Pakistani men, who had been working as auto mechanics in Mehrestan – approximately 230 kilometres from the Pakistan-Iran border – were discovered. Their hands and legs were tied, indicating a gruesome execution-style killing. A little-known group, the Baloch National Army (BNA), claimed responsibility for the attack. While the Foreign Office issued a measured statement…
We live in difficult times, and it is challenging to remain optimistic about the future. Climate change threatens human wellbeing and planetary health, and the window to secure a liveable and sustainable future for all is rapidly closing. Neo-fascism is spreading across continents. Militarism is on the rise. Genocide in Palestine continues to be livestreamed while war rages on from Sudan to Ukraine and Myanmar. Workers suffer under a worldwide assault on their political rights and freedoms. In short, we live in a world imperialist economy that continually reproduces inequality, poverty and war and is driven by the capitalist logic of…

Listen to article LAHORE: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) should not shy away from sacrificing its governments in the Centre – as an ally – and Sindh if the issue of canal construction was not addressed, warned the party’s central Punjab general secretary Syed Hasan Murtaza. Hasan Murtaza said the construction of new canals would weaken the country and undermine the federation. Speaking to the media on Sunday, he said that the water issue was not confined to Sindh and Punjab, but was a national concern. “In fact, the problem of water is greater in Punjab than in Sindh. We are already receiving…
A new Cleveland Clinic study conducted in the United States on the flu vaccine has grabbed vaccine sceptics’ interest, prompting questions and concerns about the vaccine’s safety. “Get the flu shot and you are 27% more likely to get the flu!” read an April 7 X post that referenced a preprint study published on April 4. “GET THE SHOT GET THE DISEASE!” 🚨🚨BREAKING: GET THE FLU SHOT AND YOU ARE 27% MORE LIKELY TO GET THE FLU!!!! The National Electoral Council declared late on Sunday that the incumbent, who has promised to boost the flagging economy and continue a crackdown on cartel violence, had won by a wide margin. With more than 90 percent of ballots counted, the 37-year-old Noboa was reported to have taken 55.8 percent of the vote. That gave him a twelve-point lead over left-wing opponent Luisa Gonzalez. However, his rival, whose support polls had suggested was running…
