Ahead of the offensive, COGAT — the Israeli defence ministry body responsible for civil affairs in the Palestinian territories — said that, starting from Sunday, the military would supply more tents and shelter equipment.…

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said he would travel to Washington on Monday for talks with Donald Trump, after the US president’s summit with Russia’s Vladimir Putin failed to bring an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine or a plan to achieve one. He said Trump had invited him on Saturday in a phone call that lasted more than an hour and a half. They were joined after an hour by European and NATO officials, he added. On X, he said he and Trump would “discuss all of the details regarding ending the killing and the war”, adding: “I am grateful for the…
In the early hours of Saturday morning following a summit in Alaska between the leaders of Russia and the United States, senior politicians in Moscow were quick to trumpet the meeting as a win for Russia and its narrative of the war in Ukraine. “The meeting in Alaska confirmed Russia’s desire for peace, long-term and fair,” said Andrei Klishas, a senior lawmaker from President Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party. He portrayed the summit as a coup for Russia and a loss for Ukraine and its European allies, who have been pushing for an unconditional ceasefire. “The tasks of the SMO…

Richarlison scored twice on Saturday to give Tottenham manager Thomas Frank a dream home debut with a 3-0 win over Burnley, while Erling Haaland inspired new-look Manchester City’s 4-0 rout of Wolves on the opening weekend of the Premier League season. Frank was seconds away from launching his era in charge with a trophy until a late Paris Saint-Germain revival won the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday. The former Brentford boss replaced Ange Postecoglou despite the Australian ending Tottenham’s 17-year trophy drought by lifting the Europa League last term. Postecoglou was undone by Tottenham’s worst domestic season since 1976-77 as…
