China has sharply stepped up harassment of other countries in the South China Sea in recent days, and has adopted a particularly belligerent attitude toward the Philippines. China’s aggressive behavior — chasing away fishing boats, attacking other vessels with water cannons and essentially suffocating foreign ships with swarms of Chinese coast guard and naval vessels — has been going on for at least a decade, but Beijing’s relentless aggression in the South China Sea is more likely to spark conflict than the great power dispute over Taiwan. Since the spring, and particularly over the past week, China has stepped up…
An eerie scene unfolded on a busy main road in Rawalpindi, Punjab, Pakistan, as dozens of vehicles heading to various parts of Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) were suddenly stopped by a group of masked men. Following this forced stop, a chilling scene unfolded as veiled Pakistani men started graffitiing the Kashmiri vehicles with slogans such as: “Pakistan Zindabad” and “Pakistani Army Zindabad”.But this is not an isolated incident of arbitrary vandalism. It is just one example of the disturbing xenophobic trend that has gripped Pakistan in recent days and is a vicious response to the growing unrest in PoJK.…

Silent Hill 2 doesn’t have yellow paint all around the place to guide players, but it does have a fully customizable HUD.Since 2024, yellow paint has been the focus of countless online debates. Modders have attempted to remove the yellow paint from the Resident Evil 4 remake, followed by the infamous yellow paint controversy in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Some argue that the yellow paint ruins the “immersion” while some developers argue that it could be guided in more creative ways. For many, however, it’s a useful accessibility feature for those who need it, and inconsequential for those who don’t.Now…

As the November 2024 election approaches, many are discussing the threat of political violence. I recently joined a group of 25 faith and community leaders from across the United States on a trip to Northern Ireland focused on the same topic: exploring the aftermath of the 30 years of violence known as “The Troubles” in Northern Ireland. The trip was co-sponsored by the Carter Center and Rethinking Conflict, a nonprofit organization that works on conflict transformation, peacebuilding, and reconciliation.Meeting with a range of Northern Irish leaders, including victims of political violence, terrorism and bombings, our group got a glimpse into…
