ISLAMABAD: Federal government has begun preparations to privatise electricity distribution companies including the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) and the Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO). The United States has dispatched humanitarian aid to Pakistan to help those affected by ongoing floods across country, the military’s media wing said on Saturday. According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), six flights organised through US Army Central Command (ARCENT) will deliver relief goods, including tents, dewatering pumps and generators. At least five people, including a woman and four children, lost their lives after a boat carrying flood victims capsized during an evacuation operation in Jalalpur Pirwala on Saturday, officials confirmed. According to Rescue 1122, more than 20 people were on board when the boat overturned due to strong water currents.
