ISLAMABAD: The country’s polls oversight authority has postponed by-elections at nine different National Assembly and Punjab Assembly constituencies in view of floods. Most of these seats had fallen vacant after conviction of PTI lawmakers in May 9 rioting cases and their subsequent de-seating. According to an official notification issued on Thursday, the ECP postponed by-elections at NA-66 Wazirabad, NA-96 Faisalabad, NA-104 Faisalabad, NA-129 Lahore, NA-143 Sahiwal, PP-73 Sargodha, PP-87 Mianwali, PP-98 Faisalabad and PP-203 Sahiwal. ISLAMABAD: Salaried individuals have paid 21% more in income tax during the first two months of this fiscal year, contributing Rs85 billion, showing that the nominal reduction in rates in the budget was insufficient to ease their financial burden. Compared to Rs70 billion in income tax payments during July-August of the last fiscal year, their contributions surged to about Rs85 billion this year, government sources told The Express Tribune. KARACHI: Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has reported a significant oil and gas discovery at its Dhok Sultan-03 well in District Attock, Punjab. This marks the second hydrocarbon find in the Dhok Sultan Block and is among the deepest oil discoveries in naturally fractured carbonate formations in the Potwar region. According to PPL, the well was drilled after extensive geological, geophysical, and reservoir engineering studies.
