The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has postponed by-elections in several National and Provincial Assembly constituencies in Punjab due to unprecedented flooding that has severely damaged infrastructure and disrupted administrative functions across the province. The Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Ain Vice Chairman, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, has petitioned the Supreme Court, seeking implementation of a majority decision by the Supreme Court (SC), (Practice and Procedure) Act Committee (PAPA) to fix petitions against the 26th Constitutional Amendment before a full court. The committee, by a 2-1 majority on October 31, 2023, directed the SC Registrar to list the petitions on 4 November. However, the cases were not scheduled for hearing. The United Kingdom (UK) has pledged an additional Rs454 million (£1.2 million) in humanitarian support for anticipatory flood response in Sindh, raising its total aid for Pakistan’s flood preparedness and relief efforts to Rs958 million (£2.53 million).
