Ten people were injured and 90 were arrested on Wednesday after violent clashes between rival fans during a Copa Sudamericana match between Argentina’s Independiente and visiting Universidad de Chile in Buenos Aires, club officials and police said. A stun grenade was among the objects hurled by fans as the last-16 second-leg encounter of the regional competition at the Libertadores de America stadium was initially suspended shortly after half-time and eventually abandoned. In shocking and chaotic scenes, one fan of the Chilean visitors jumped from the stands to escape attacking opposing supporters after being cornered. Home supporters beat and stripped some…
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday granted bail to former prime minister Imran Khan on the principle of consistency in eight cases linked to the May 9 riots, overturning an earlier Lahore High Court ruling that had refused him bail. “The case of the petitioner has to be positively considered in view of the principle of consistency, as others similarly placed have been granted bail by this Court,” said the four-page order authored by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi. The three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Afridi, allowed Khan’s petitions against the June 24 decision of the Lahore High…

KARACHI: Pakistan will walk into the Asia Cup 2025 starting September 9 without Babar Azam, a decision that has already sparked debate among fans and experts. For nearly a decade, Babar has been the anchor of Pakistan’s batting. Now, at 30, he finds himself out of the squad not because of an injury or retirement but because of form and approach. Head coach Mike Hesson explained the move bluntly: Babar’s strike rate of 129 in T20 internationals is below the standard in today’s game, and his issues against spin have been exposed too often. Numbers, however, still weigh in his…
President Donald Trump’s dealings with Intel and Nvidia amount to a “scattershot method of crony capitalism,” Walter Isaacson said Thursday.”That state capitalism often evolves into crony capitalism, where you have favored companies and industries that pay tribute to the leader, and that is a recipe for not only disaster, but just sort of a corrupt sense of messiness,” he told CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”The Tulane University professor, widely known for his recent Elon Musk biography, argued that this method won’t succeed in reviving American manufacturing.Isaacson’s comments come as the Trump administration wades further into influencing the way companies operate in the…
