Bagda By-election Results 2024 Live: Leading, Lagging, Winners, MLAs

Madhuparna Thakur of the All India Trinamool Congress has been elected as the next Baghdad assembly member, defeating Vinay Kumar Biswas of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by 33,455 votes.

The counting of results for Bagda by-election was held on 13 July 2024. A total of nine candidates contested in this election. The by-election to this parliamentary constituency was necessitated by the resignation of Biswajit Das.

94. Bagda is a Vidhan Sabha constituency in the state of West Bengal. The constituency is located in North 24 Parganas district and South East Bengal region of West Bengal. The Bagda seat can be categorized as: Rural. Reservation status of this seat: Scheduled Caste. Bagda is part of 14. Bangaon (Scheduled Caste) Lok Sabha constituency. There are a total of 294 seats in the West Bengal Assembly.

Candidates’ contest

A total of nine candidates were contesting in the July 2024 state assembly by-elections and five candidates were contesting for this seat in the 2021 West Bengal assembly elections.

List of candidates contesting in the 2024 by-elections: Ashok Kumar Haldar (INC), Gore Biswas (AIFB), Vinay Kumar Biswas (BJP), Madhuparna Thakur (TMC), Arun Kumar Mondal (MPI), Manik Bagchi (IND), Satyajit Majumdar (IND), Satyen Adhikary (IND) and Sujata Bairagi (IND).

Past election results

In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, BJP’s Biswajit Das defeated AITC’s Paritosh Kumar Saha by 9,792 votes, securing 4.49% of the total votes. A total of 217,771 votes were polled in the election, of which the BJP secured 108,111 votes, accounting for 49.41% of the total votes.

In the 2024 Indian Lok Sabha elections, Shantanu Thakur is leading in the Bagda Assembly constituency of Bangaon with 20,614 votes, which is 9.51% of the total votes polled in this Assembly. Shantanu Thakur (BJP) won the Bangaon Assembly seat.

Election Day

The Gazette Notice for the Bagda by-election was published on Friday, June 14, 2024, the last date for consideration of candidates was Monday, June 24, 2024, and the last date for withdrawal of candidates was Wednesday, June 26, 2024. The constituency will go to polls on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, and the counting of votes will take place on Saturday, July 13, 2024.

The counting of votes for the 2021 Parliamentary Elections took place on Friday, February 5, 2021.

In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, the total number of voters in Baghda is 2,77,464, of which 1,43,937 are male, 1,33,521 female and 6 voters of the third gender.

Voter turnout

On 10 July 2024, the voter turnout in Bagda constituency was reported as 68.01%, which is 10.91% lower than the voter turnout recorded in this constituency in the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, where the voter turnout in this constituency was reported as 78.92%.
