High-speed collision between car, motorcycle; another saw a passenger coach collide with an oil tanker

QUETTA:

Two road accidents in Balochistan on Friday left three people dead and more than ten others injured.

Loralai Accident
In the Loralai district, near Sihnar Bridge at Sanda Mor in the Mekhtar area, a high-speed collision between a car and a motorcycle killed two brothers instantly. Rescue and police sources said the brothers were returning home after a day’s work when the car struck them.

Witnesses described the scene as “heart-wrenching,” with grief and anger among family members and residents. Rescue teams transferred the bodies to Teaching Hospital Loralai for post-mortem before handing them over to the families. Police have seized the car and are questioning the driver. Early investigations suggest that excessive speed and reckless driving were the main causes.

Hub Accident
On the same day, a passenger coach travelling from Quetta to Karachi collided with an oil tanker near Mujahid Pir Stop, close to Bureeda Camp in Hub, Lasbela district. One person died at the scene, while more than ten others were injured, including men, women, and children, some in critical condition.

Rescue and police teams rushed the injured to Winder Civil Hospital for treatment. Authorities said high speed, sudden lane changes, or other factors may have contributed to the crash. Investigations are ongoing to determine the final cause.

Residents, civil society groups, and safety advocates have urged authorities to implement urgent measures at high-risk locations such as Sanda Mor and Mujahid Pir Stop. Recommended steps include speed breakers, better signage, street lighting, and stricter traffic enforcement.

Traffic Accidents Across Balochistan
Traffic accidents in Balochistan increased sharply in 2025, claiming more than 400 lives and injuring around 30,000 people, according to the annual report by Medical Emergency Response Centres (MERC) 1122.

From January 1 to December 31, 2025, rescue teams responded to over 24,000 traffic accidents on national highways and inter-provincial roads. Nearly 30,000 people were injured, while more than 415 fatalities were recorded. Thousands of victims were shifted to medical facilities where Rescue 1122 teams provided emergency treatment.

The N-25 National Highway (Quetta-Karachi) was the most accident-prone route, with high rates of injuries and deaths reported in Mastung, Khuzdar, Lasbela, Pishin, and Quetta. The N-50 Highway has also been declared a high-risk route.

Rescue officials attributed the high number of accidents to driver negligence, speeding, vehicle overloading, and poor road conditions.

For comparison, in 2024, a total of 23,257 traffic accidents were recorded in Balochistan, resulting in 31,854 injuries and 416 fatalities. Rescue 1122 also conducted 6,267 outpatient department (OPD) services that year.
