“Bareback sex” on airplanes: a new trend among male travelers

The new phenomenon known as “low dogs” is just one example of a never-ending string of strange travel trends. This rising travel trend is gaining popularity among male travelers.

Instead of enjoying in-flight entertainment and services, low dogs choose to endure the journey in a state of almost complete sensory deprivation. Travelers who practice this trend avoid using headphones, watching movies, listening to music, reading, and even eating and drinking water during the flight. The aim is to endure the entire journey in silence, without any exposure to external stimuli, and without looking at a screen.

Why do men have bareback sex on airplanes?

There are a few reasons why men are adopting this minimalist style of flying. First, there’s the practical reality of financial savings: Budget airlines charge a premium for in-flight amenities and entertainment, so passengers can save money by forgoing them. Second, there’s mental clarity: Some proponents argue that being disconnected from constant stimulation offers a rare opportunity for mental rest and reflection, allowing men to clear their minds and reach a Zen-like state of calm.

Others see the “low dog” as a challenge to their physical and mental limits. They see it as a test of their strength, an opportunity to show how far they can go. In a TikTok video, British DJ Udini brags about his feat: “Just completed a 7 hour flight in a low dog (a new personal record). No headphones, no movie, no water, nothing. Unbelievable. My mental strength knows no limits.”

Potential risks of this travel trend

While “raw dogging” may be appealing to those looking for a minimalist experience, it is not without risks and concerns. Prolonged lack of hydration and exercise can lead to dehydration, deep vein thrombosis, and other health issues. Staying hydrated and moving around occasionally during long flights is essential to maintaining physical health. And for many people, a lack of distractions can lead to boredom and anxiety, making the flight experience unpleasant and mentally taxing.

Additionally, in the event of an emergency, uninvolved passengers may not heed and react to safety instructions and procedures.Still, while comprehensive data on the prevalence of “livedogging” is limited, anecdotal evidence suggests that it is growing in popularity, especially among young, male travelers.Social media platforms such as TikTok and Reddit are flooded with posts and videos documenting personal experiences and challenges related to the trend.
