As the Klay Thompson era comes to an end for Golden State, former Warriors guard Baron Davis has mixed feelings about how the situation has unfolded.
Speaking with Draymond Green on “The Draymond Green Show,” Davis expressed disappointment that Thompson agreed to a sign-and-trade with the Dallas Mavericks.
“I hate to see it,” Davis said. “You were babies and it’s kind of like how I feel about Kobe here in L.A., watching a young man grow into a man and become a superstar and become a legend. So I wish Klay the best of luck, because I’m a Klay fan.”
“I’m a fan of the players first, so I support them no matter what they do. But as a Warriors fan and what he meant to the Warriors, I hope they do the documentary and welcome him back and honor him the way he deserves. But the dynasty is over. This is not the ending to the story that was meant to happen.”
Thompson, Green and Stephen Curry became the faces of the Warriors, who won four NBA titles and reached six NBA Finals over the past 10 seasons. After negotiations with Thompson stalled, he asked to be traded elsewhere and ultimately joined the Mavericks.
Now, with the new Warriors battling in a competitive Western Conference and trying to maximize the remaining years of Curry and Green’s NBA careers, emotions will surely be running high when Thompson and the Mavericks visit Chase Center for the first time next season.
