WASHINGTON – After all, Barron Trump won’t be replacing his father as a convention delegate.
Former first lady Melania Trump’s office released a statement Friday saying, “Mr. Barron is honored to have been selected as a delegate to the Republican Party of Florida, but due to prior commitments, he regrettably declines to participate.” .
No further details were given as to why Donald Trump’s youngest son, who is certain to be the Republican nominee in 2024, declined to participate in the event.
The announcement came a day after President Trump expressed approval for his son’s role at the Republican National Convention, which will be held in Milwaukee from July 15-18.
“I would say he’s pretty young. He’s only 17 years old,” Trump said in an interview with Telemundo 51 Miami. “But if they can do it, I’m all for it.”

Trump incorrectly stated his son’s age. Barron Trump turned 18 in March.
The Florida Republican Party announced Thursday that it has selected Barron as an at-large delegate, a member of the state’s 125-member delegation. Other family members are also delegates, including Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, who serves as chairman of the Florida delegation.
Trump’s ongoing hush money trial will be adjourned next Friday, allowing the former president to attend his son’s high school graduation.
