After completing the fourth phase with 78.37 per cent voter turnout, West Bengal is all set to set its sights on the fifth phase to be held on May 20. Voting will be held in seven of the 42 Lok Sabha constituencies at this stage, including the following constituencies: Bangaon (SC), Barrackpore, Howrah, Uluberia, Sreerampur, Hooghly, Alanbagh.

Barrackpore-
In Barrackpore, Bharatiya Janata Party’s candidate Arjun Singh is facing off against TMC’s Partha Bhowmik and CPI(M)’s Devdutt Ghosh, who has Congress support. Singh moved to the BJP five years ago after the ruling TMC rejected his nomination and secured his victory in the 2019 general elections. Interestingly, he returned to his TMC within three years afterwards. He defeated Dinesh Trivedi in 2019.
Geographically, Barrackpore stretches from the northern 24 Parganas districts to the northern limits of Kolkata. Uluberia-
TMC’s Sajida Ahmed will face Bharatiya Janata Party’s Arun Uday Pal Chaudhary and Congress’ Azahar Molik.
Uluberia has an almost even split between Hindu and Muslim voters. Hooghly is one of the 42 Lok Sabha constituencies in West Bengal, comprising four divisions: Chinsurah Sadar, Srirampur, Chandernagar and Alanbag. Historically, the city of Hooghly was a prominent trading port in India before it was colonized. With a population of 5,519,145 as per the 2011 census, Hooghly is one of the economically developed districts of West Bengal. It serves as a major hub for jute cultivation, jute industry and jute trade in the state.

TMC’s Mithali Bagh will be competing against BJP’s Anup Kanti Digha.
Alambagh is a key constituency in West Bengal and falls under SC category among the 42 assembly seats in the state. Traditionally held by the Left since 1980, it came under TMC control in 2014.
