Washington, DC sports gamblers will have a new option when BetMGM rolls out its app citywide next week on July 15th.

Washington, DC sports gamblers will have a new option when BetMGM rolls out its app citywide next week on July 15th.

Currently, the BetMGM mobile app can only be accessed in and around Nationals Park.

FanDuel is currently the only licensed gambling app in the District and only recently came online: The D.C. Lottery and Gaming Department selected it in April to replace the struggling city-run GambetDC.

BetMGM plans to kick off its citywide expansion outside the Nats Park Sportsbook at 1500 Capitol Street in Southeast Washington, D.C., with a go-go band performing at 7 a.m. and a media event in the late afternoon.

Sports betting in Washington, DC, has been legal since 2020. Last month, the DC Council approved a fiscal 2025 budget that is expected to open up the market to more operators and increase revenue for the city. Sportsbooks and sports betting apps pay city taxes on revenue, and winners are taxed on their winnings.

Sports betting apps also pay annual licensing fees to the district.

It’s unclear whether FanDuel will remain active in D.C. and compete with the likes of BetMGM, which also currently operates a sportsbook at Audi Field.

Earlier this year, BetMGM partnered with Bethesda-based Marriott International to launch a rewards program that allows gamblers to earn Marriott Bonvoy points on hotel stays. This follows an earlier partnership between Marriott and MGM Resorts International that allowed Bonvoy members to use their points for hotel bookings at MGM hotels and resorts.

BETMGM currently operates in 29 states, including Maryland.
