Lafayette, Louisiana (KLFY) – The 2024 US presidential election is impossible to ignore, and scam calls are becoming political.
Recent BBB Scam Tracker Scammers are reportedly using fake political fundraising calls to trick Americans into “donating” to their favorite candidates.
How this scam works is that you first receive a robocall from a recorded voice, possibly sounding like a potential presidential candidate, telling you that your rivals are raising a lot of money and that you need to donate immediately to help your favorite candidate win.
If you offer to donate, you’ll be transferred to a representative who will ask for your credit card information, but your money won’t be used to support political causes. Instead, the fake caller will steal your money and personal information and use it for identity theft. Be on the lookout for more versions of this scam as the 2024 election campaign heats up.
