If 2023 was the year of the no-pants trend, then according to Beyoncé, 2024 will be the year of backless chaps.
Leading up to debut Act 2: Cowboy CarterIn 2015, the singer launched into a string of Western-inspired looks to celebrate the new era, first wearing a crystal cowboy look at Lure’s New York Fashion Week show in February, then shortly afterwards, she was spotted wearing a plaid tailored suit from Pharrell’s Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2024 collection.
Denim and leather ensembles were plentiful, along with matching western hats in every color, and, in a testament to Queen Beyoncé’s power, rodeo style has dominated on and off the runway ever since. And the biggest trend of all might be chaps.
Usually reserved for horseback riding and real cowboys, cutout pants have now made their way onto the main stage (literally): Beyoncé has worn quite a few chaps while promoting her new album, most of which were completely backless, as have fellow Houston native Megan Thee Stallion.

Don’t just take my word for it: Check out this list of A-list stars who are embracing the chaps trend in real life this summer.
Beyonce’s grey backless chaps

Country music aside, Beyoncé goes all-in on “Cowboy Carter.” style In keeping with the times, Queen Bey has been rocking a number of outfits complete with color-matched cowboy hats and revealing chaps that show off her famous curves. Last month, the singer took to Instagram to show off an all-gray thong bodysuit paired with matching leather chaps. Skimping on pants, Queen Bey paired the outfit with a matching fur coat and sunglasses to complete the outlaw look.
Carrie Underwood’s metallic chaps

Fellow country singer Carrie Underwood wore buckled denim pants with shorts underneath during a concert in El Paso, Texas, last March. The American Idol star sang onstage with guitarist Ed Eason, and the Western-inspired outfit was a more wearable version of Beyoncé’s more scandalous take on the trend.
Beyonce’s All-American Chaps

To tease her upcoming performance, the singer donned a red, white, and blue leather cowboy outfit that was full of Americana vibes. The Evel Knievel-esque outfit featured skimpy chaps and a long-sleeved buttoned-up bodysuit with a ruffled back. Business in the front, party in the back, her Cowboy Carter Her look was the start of a new era, so it’s only natural that it would spark a few trends along the way.
Megan Thee Stallion’s Neon Chaps

Megan Thee Stallion kicked off her first world tour in not one but two different chaps. Both were fluffy, cartoon-inspired outfits, similar to the outfits she wore in the recently released Boa music video. No stranger to skimpy outfits, the neon pink chaps were just the latest in the rapper’s wild series of concert outfits. We hope to see more!
Megan Thee Stallion’s hairy chaps

Right before her sold-out show at Madison Square Garden in New York City last week, Megan The Stallion posted a behind-the-scenes video. In true Houston fashion, the rapper rocked yet another chaps look, but this time she opted for a skimpy style in black leather—trimmed with fur, of course (just like the pink version). And to match the sophisticated vibe, her hair was jet black, too.
