In today’s rapidly evolving technological world, artificial intelligence, augmented reality and robotics are transforming our daily lives and the environments in which we work. These cutting-edge technologies are poised to enable innovative digital experiences and redefine how we interact with the world.

At the BEYOND EXPO’s Consumer Tech Summit on Friday, industry leaders came together to explore the possibilities and challenges of these burgeoning technologies through a series of insightful panel discussions.

Integrating artificial intelligence into personal devices has been a hot topic in recent months, with companies racing to leverage this powerful technology to improve user experience. The idea of personalized AI is quickly moving from science fiction to reality.

Jingkang Liu, CEO and founder of 360-degree camera manufacturer Insta360, envisioned a future where individuals have a digital personal assistant by their side that constantly learns from their interactions, understands their preferences, and offers customized solutions.

But there are challenges on the road to this AI-driven utopia. One of the main concerns raised is that of privacy and data security. As Carl Pei, co-founder of Nothing Technology, put it, “security is at the core of truth.”

“At the heart of privacy is being transparent with users about usage, meaning that the data we collect is something they can choose to give us or not,” Pei continued. “We need to fully communicate the benefits of sharing their data – what benefits they get, the enhanced services we can offer them. Our goal is to enable users to truly experience the value of these services through our products.”

Panelists in the morning session also explored the interplay between collaboration and competition within the industry. While acknowledging the natural human tendency to compete, they advocated a balanced approach that fosters cooperation and mutual growth.

Specifically, the panel suggested that industry players should strive for a healthy ecosystem in which competition is driven by deeper insights into customer needs, innovative research and differentiated product offerings, rather than disadvantageous price wars.

With developments like the metaverse and the AI boom, the realm of augmented reality has also captured the imagination of entrepreneurs and consumers alike, but the uniqueness of different use cases makes scaling AR particularly challenging.

Xu Zhi, founder and CEO of AR brand XREAL, said it’s unfortunate that there aren’t any AR apps that represent this era, just like Angry Birds was the flagship of the early iPhone era. This situation motivates XREAL to proactively try out future-oriented scenarios and work with partner developers, Xu said.
