Today, the Department of Defense (DoD) announced a significant new security assistance package to meet Ukraine’s critical security and defense needs. This announcement marks the 58th equipment the Biden Administration will provide to Ukraine from the Department of Defense inventory since August 2021 using Presidential withdrawal authority. This is the fifth security assistance package the President has approved since signing the National Security Supplemental Act last month, and the third package the President has made using Presidential withdrawal authority. It will provide Ukraine with additional capabilities to meet its most pressing battlefield needs, including additional precision attack rockets, artillery shells, air-launched munitions, and anti-tank weapons for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS).
Today’s announced features include:
- Ammunition for HIMARS.
- 155mm and 105mm shells
- 60mm mortar shells;
- Tube-launched optically tracked wire-guided (TOW) missile
- Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems
