WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign expects to raise at least $28 million in Los Angeles Saturday night at a Hollywood fundraiser featuring former President Barack Obama and several A-list celebrities, the campaign announced.
The fundraising total is the largest in Democratic Party history, surpassing the $26 million that Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton raised for Biden in March.
The fundraising reception in Hollywood will be hosted by actor George Clooney, actress Julia Roberts and comedian Jimmy Kimmel.

“Saturday’s fundraiser will demonstrate the power of entertainment industry leaders to send a clear message: they are united and passionate about the re-election of President Biden and Vice President Harris,” the campaign said in a statement.
Biden, who had been in Italy in recent days for the Group of Seven summit, landed aboard Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews outside Washington shortly before 3 a.m. ET on Saturday. The plane refueled and Biden departed for Los Angeles about an hour later.

For much of the race, Biden held a significant fundraising advantage over the Republican front-runner, former President Donald Trump. But the Trump campaign and affiliated fundraising committees raised $76 million in April to Biden’s $51 million. This marks the first time that Trump has outraised Biden in a single month in the 2024 race.

The Trump campaign said it raised a massive $141 million in May, a huge increase after Trump was convicted in his hush-money trial in New York. The Biden campaign has not disclosed how much it raised in May; its May figures are due to be released to the Federal Election Commission soon.
Trump’s most lucrative fundraiser of the 2024 campaign was held in April at the Palm Beach, Florida, home of billionaire investor John Paulson, which Reuters reported raised a record $50.5 million.
