Late Sunday night, the FBI released an update on the shooting.
The FBI is investigating the shooting at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13 as a possible assassination attempt and domestic terrorism, which left one victim dead and injured former President Trump and other spectators.
“While the investigation to date indicates that the shooter acted alone, the FBI is continuing to conduct due diligence to determine whether there were any co-conspirators in this attack. There are no public safety concerns at this time.”
The FBI has not yet determined a motive for the shooter’s actions, but is collecting and reviewing evidence, conducting interviews, and following up on all leads to determine the events leading up to the shooting and the shooter’s actions. The FBI has also obtained the shooter’s cell phone for investigation purposes.
The FBI searched the shooter’s home and vehicle for further evidence, and suspected explosives found at both locations were rendered safe by bomb disposal technicians and are being evaluated at an FBI lab.
The gun used in the shooting was purchased legally.
Prior to this incident, the shooter was unknown to the FBI.
