Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Friday criticised the transparency of the 2024 general elections, saying that the elections were not transparent.

Quetta: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has questioned the transparency of the 2024 general elections, saying there is “no transparency.” Bhutto denied allegations that the recent elections held on February 8 were the biggest in Pakistan’s history, despite admitting fraud against his party in almost every election, ARY News reported.

Speaking at a press conference in Quetta, Bilawal stressed the need to end the recurring problem of electoral rigging through a political consensus. “Politicians need to agree that elections should be conducted fairly and their results should be accepted,” he said.

Bilawal stressed that the PPP has played an active role in advocating for electoral reforms and lamented occasional obstruction by rival parties and individual politicians. He noted the ongoing cases of electoral fraud being adjudicated by the Electoral Tribunal and stressed the importance of fair electoral practices, ARY News reported.

Regarding development plans, Bilawal praised the Sindh government’s achievements in healthcare, citing the establishment of a state-of-the-art hospital for liver transplants in Ghanbat. He promised to make similar progress in Quetta, ensuring equal access to quality healthcare and education for its residents.

“The hospital in Naseerabad, Balochistan will meet the standards set by Ghanbat Hospital,” Bilawal asserted.

Discussing the PPP manifesto, Bilawal reiterated the party’s stand on abolishing the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), which he accused of engaging in political manipulation, retaliatory tactics and tarnishing the reputations of politicians, which he said were adversely affecting Pakistan’s economy and democratic process.

Bilawal expressed disappointment over the lack of agreement on the abolition of the NAB and stated the PPP’s intention to continue to campaign for its abolition.

Bilawal said the PPP was supporting the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to ensure stability in the 2024-25 budget, but expressed dissatisfaction with the PML-N’s alleged failure to abide by the agreement between the two parties.

Prime Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari underscored the PPP’s firm commitment to establishing fair electoral systems, improving the health system and implementing key economic reforms. ARY News reported that he underscored the party’s persistent efforts to confront Pakistan’s challenges and uphold the principles of democracy.
