Laval, Quebec and Frederick, Maryland, June 3, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–BIOQuébec and the Maryland Technology Council (MTC) announce a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen collaboration and cooperation between the life sciences sectors of Quebec and Maryland. The partnership aims to foster mutual benefits through the sharing of information and opportunities, strengthening the biopharmaceutical and biotechnology industries in both regions.

The MOU establishes a framework for cooperation that will enable members of both organizations to access resources, connect with international markets and participate in special events to foster growth and innovation in the life sciences industry, which may include bilateral events such as trade missions, pitch competitions and conferences.

“We are pleased to partner with the Maryland Technology Council through this Memorandum of Understanding. This collaboration will not only provide valuable exchange opportunities for our respective members, but will also enrich both the Quebec and Maryland biotechnology sectors through the sharing of knowledge and initiatives, ensuring mutual benefit. It is a practical step to expand our reach and influence and strengthen our industry on an international scale,” said Benoît Larose, CEO of BIOQuébec.

“This exciting collaboration with BIOQuébec leverages the unique strengths of both organizations to foster knowledge exchange and connect our members to new markets,” said Kelly Schultz, CEO of the Maryland Technology Council. “By sharing our expertise and innovation, we are pleased to work with BIOQuébec to advance the cutting edge of life sciences.”

“In Quebec, we are leveraging international partnerships to build an even stronger and more vibrant life sciences ecosystem. This agreement between BIOQuébec and the Maryland Technology Council will see us working together to foster growth and innovation in a sector that is vital to both our economies,” said Christopher Skeete, Minister of Economy, Minister Responsible for Combating Racism and Minister Responsible for the Laval Region.

“It is always good for Quebec to build economic relationships with other countries. The partnership between BIOQuébec and the Maryland Technology Council is a great example of how collaboration can accelerate innovation in key sectors,” added Pierre Fitzgibbon, Minister of Economy, Innovation and Energy, Minister of Regional Economic Development and Minister responsible for Métropolis and the Montreal Region.

Maryland and Quebec have a shared history of collaboration, having signed an agreement in 2020, renewed in 2023, to jointly advance trade and innovation, particularly in the areas of life sciences and public health.

“We are excited to see Maryland and Quebec strengthen their partnership with this new agreement, opening even more doors for biotech companies in our regions,” said Maryland Secretary of Commerce Kevin Anderson. “We look forward to working with the Maryland Technology Council to support this MOU and help Maryland companies connect with new partners and opportunities in Quebec.”

This partnership demonstrates the commitment of both organizations to not only advance their respective fields, but also to creating real opportunities for their members.

Additional information regarding specific events and opportunities resulting from this partnership will be shared with members in the coming months.
