A state leadership meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held here on Saturday decided to parlay its success in the Lok Sabha elections into local and state assembly elections in 2025 and 2026 respectively.
The meeting noted that the electoral landscape in the state has tilted in the party’s favour and its enthusiastic performance in the Lok Sabha elections will be reflected in the upcoming local and state assembly elections.
The party’s state unit president K Surendran asserted that the BJP would come to power in the state in 2026. “In 2021, we faced criticism when we said that the party could win around 35 seats in the then state assembly elections. But the results of this Lok Sabha election showed that the party had secured between 35,000 and 70,000 votes in around 60 state assembly constituencies,” he said.
Eyes on CPI(M) votes
Stating that there is no time for rest, Surendran said Union Minister Suresh Gopi’s victory in Thrissur is an example of how hard work and consistent efforts to connect with different sections of society translates into electoral victory. The Communist Party of India has been able to make inroads into the traditional Communist Party of India (Marxist) vote base in this Lok Sabha election. People have also embraced the alternative development model proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said.
In his address, Gopi pointed out that people had voted robustly for the party in the Lok Sabha elections. Its historic win in Thrissur shows that a large section of voters in the state have decided to support the party. This needs to be strengthened in the local body and state assembly elections, he said.
